This fine collection of American Indian art focuses primarily on modern pottery. Carefully assembled over thirty years, this private collector has found superb examples from many of the matriarchs as well as many of the finest contemporary artists of our time. Included in this photograph is a beautiful and large blackware jar attributed to Sarafina by her daughter, Margaret Tafoya. Also represented is a large blackware vase by Carmelita Dunlap and smaller handled pot by Mela Youngblood. The collection of pottery is well rounded with little gems such as those from San Ildefonso like the small highly polished blackware bowl at the bottom signed by Maria Poveka the small redware pot at center by Blue Corn. There are also lovely examples of Hopi pottery represented here by the tall vase by Sadie Adams and large scale seed jar by Dawn Navasie. The unsigned Acoma canteen at the bottom has an interesting form and well executed graphic quality that is characteristic of this collection as a whole. The scope of the collection is broad, encompassing not only beautiful art from the Southwest, but also few examples of contemporary Northwest Coast glass and pottery.

This large scale seedpot by Dorothy Torivio is a stunning example of contemporary Acoma pottery. The dynamic quality of the concentric black and white spiral designs relate beautifully with the balanced overall form of the pot.

Three Hopi polychrome wedding jars. The tall ones by Joy Navasie (Second Frog Woman) and Maynard and Veronica Navasie, the shorter one Agnes Nahsoya. The wedding jar at the top is from Jemez and is a wonderful example with the bride and groom placed separately in the heart of the openwork jar.

There are several fine Navajo textiles in this collection, including Two Grey Hills pieces, one by Rosie Tsimisimasi. The "Yei" patterned textile pictured here uses brilliant colors and is very finely woven.

A fine and large Santa Clara vase by Margaret Tafoya. This Blackware vase is particularly well proportioned with a broad design field for the carved serpent motif.

There are more than a dozen contemporary Hopi Kachina figures included in this collection. Pictured here are two by John Fredericks and one by Adrian Poleahla. The collection is well documented, with some photographs available of the artist with the piece at the time of purchase, as is the case with the "Eagle Dancer" and the "Crow Mother" Kachinas.

4 Rookwood examples including a Calla Lily vase by Kataro Shirayamadani, 7" vellum vase, gilt incised jug.

Monumental incised pot by R. C. Gorman, 26" x 16", 45/50, 1983   4 of many Van Briggle pieces   4 of many Weller pieces

More Weller   Roseville, Coors Golden Colorado
